WHO 2006 Leadership Symposium Features
Ann Lahrson Fisher as Keynote Address Speaker
“I Jumped Off a Cliff and Discovered I Could Fly.”
Homeschooling would not be what it is today without the tireless efforts of those busy moms and dads who guide newcomers along the path to successful homeschooling. Local support group leaders, the unsung heroes of the homeschooling movement, take time from their families to help neighbors and strangers discover the wonders of homeschooling. Join us in acknowledging their good work, and then we’ll take a quick peak at some of the challenges that lie ahead. Ann Lahrson Fisher
Ann Lahrson Fisher is a dyed-in-the-wool advocate for sound educational practice in every venue, but her heart belongs to homeschooling. She is the mother of two grown homeschool graduates and the author of The Fundamentals of Homeschooling and Homeschooling in Oregon. Ann has written numerous articles about homeschooling, and is a past editor of Home Education Magazine's "News and Commentary." She has worked for homeschooling freedoms both nationally and in Oregon, and is a co-founder of Oregon Home Education Network.
For many years Ann has presented workshops and seminars on homeschooling for Northwest parents. She recently put her love of children and how they learn back to work, this time teaching reading and writing to special needs children in a public school setting. This work, though rewarding, has triggered her love of homeschooling to soar once again to new heights! There is nothing quite like a stroll through public group education to reaffirm the age-old truths about how children REALLY learn and to sharpen the important distinctions between public and private educational practice.
